If you are one of the many people who have debts on more than one credit card, it could be worth looking into consolidating the debts from the various cards into one. Consolidation is often like a credit card balance transfer, the difference is that there is more than one balance to transfer. Sometimes the process involves a bank loan at lower interest than the rate you are currently paying, the loan being used to pay off your other card debts.

The main two advantages of going through this process are:

  • To take advantage of lower interest rates (sometimes even 0% APR) and therefore lower monthly payments
  • To simplify your finances from having several card bills to pay, to having only one to pay

As with all financial products, make sure that you read the small print to see exactly what you are getting, and check how long any low interest rate or zero interest rate offers are going to last.
