Gut Flora vs. Colon Cleaning

The colon is both an amazing part of the human body, but also somewhat disgusting. It’s a five feet long (give or take a little) twisting turning waste procetoilet-picturessing machine. The colon’s main function is to absorb water, vitamins and control electrolytes like sodium and magnesium. After all the good parts have been used and absorbed by the body, the unusable products in the body are mixed with gut flora and become feces and then are expelled out of the body. Gut flora is the romantic term used to describe the tens of thousands of microorganisms that live in the colon and help process the waste.

Although people could survive without the gut flora, it is considered a healthy symbiotic relationship. These little bugs get to thrive on our waste but they help us by producing vitamin K and biotin. In addition they can help prevent more harmful bacteria from taking hold. In some cases, an imbalance in the gut flora conditions may pose a health risk to some people in rare instances. But this is very rare and not something to worry about.

I think because people associate the colon with feces and living microorganisms, the colon g colon cleaning ets a bad reputation. A whole industry has sprung up around colon cleaning with the theory being that a colon cleaning will help remove toxins from the body. I know it’s hard to believe, but our bodies function just fine with these living microorganisms, we are actually better off with them. You can clean your colon all you want, but you are chock full of microorganisms that are going to help you out whether you like it or not.
